...So. What was that?

That was the predominant question going through Carmen’s head at the moment. While she’d never been a kickboxer, her cousin was, and she’d worked with Felina enough to have a good understanding of the style and anticipate some of the more dangerous moves. That one, though? That was new. Wild. Dangerous. Crazy. She wouldn’t even bet on her cousin pulling it off on her best day, and for someone like Echidna to just have it in her repertoire, ready to go at a moment’s notice, was kind of crazy. However this match went, there was no denying the talent this beastly woman was working with.

It was impressive. Would it be enough, though? Carmen was stunned, but she still had a good well of energy to draw from. She was pushing her way back up. Slowly, mind you, more than a little groggy. Her world had been rocked, but she was a boxer - if she didn’t know how to work after her head took a solid hit, she wouldn’t have made it too far in the business, and she damn sure wouldn’t have survived to the Olympics. She’d be okay, she just needed a few moments.

Nerissa seemed hellbent on not letting her have that precious time, though. As Carmen pushed her way up, she was greeted by the sound of rushing feet, and looked up to see her opponent on the move, coming in fast with a raw determination etched into her face. She didn’t need to say what her plan was, didn’t need to call her shot to the audience for everyone to get the general gist of what was coming. The boldness in her steps told the whole story.

She was looking to end this.

How, though? Her movements were unorthodox, and Carmen couldn’t be sure what the play was right away. At first, she thought Echidna would try to hit her face with a field goal kick of sorts, knock her out quick, but no - instead, she was shifting her body, moving around, adjusting her weight. A moonsault? Some kind of Pele Kick?

She didn’t know and she didn’t want to know, really. She just had to be out of the way of the damn thing. As Nerissa flew through the air, Carmen fell to the side, rolling out of the way, just in time to avoid the boots coming down on her skull like a guillotine. That left Echidna standing in front of her, leaving her open for a precious second. Just enough time.

She pushed her way up fast, trying to move in before Nerissa could fully turn around, and shot her arms underneath the slimmer woman’s arms to capture her in a tight full nelson. She had no intention of holding her there for long, though - in an instant, she jerked back, lifting her up, and sent her flying towards the corner with a snapping full nelson suplex.

There are good days. There are bad days. And there are days like this one. There was no other way to describe it. The Native American woman entered this ring to show who she is and what she is worth. And in the first minutes it seemed that she would really succeed. The advantage is never just one side. This is exactly how it was this time. Despite the fact that she managed to take the success into her own hands, her rival corrected the situation very well. This was what Echidna liked, she loved when a rival could put up a worthy resistance. One-sided matches are the most boring and shitty thing in the world.

And then every new minute, every new second, began to turn what was happening into something unintelligible. It was a real shock for Nerissa. She could not understand at what moment and why it happened? Every time she tried to regain the advantage, she ran into some kind of invisible barrier. It turned into something she hated. In a one-sided match, and not on her side. Each of her attacks seemed to be known in advance by her rival. Almost in the blink of an eye, from a confident debutant, she turned into an idiot who came here to work as a punching bag.

A hope. Nerissa was not one of those people who believed in such things. Despite her very unusual lifestyle, she was mostly a very down to earth person. She didn't believe in fate, luck and shit like this. She just preferred to go ahead and do things. This is exactly what she did this time. The Echidna tried to forget that the audience looked at her as some kind of misunderstanding. She tried to forget that at first she and her rival were approximately equal, and then she was a hundred steps behind.

Yet after showing off her unique kick, the Native American woman had what others would most likely call hope in her soul. Hope for what? Perhaps hope for this match will end less humiliatingly. What could be worse for such a cool and unique woman? Defeats are a part of the life of any fighter, there is no doubt about it, Nerissa knew it. But becoming a complete idiot in the eyes of the audience after such a debut... this is definitely not what she wanted.

These were the thoughts that were with her at the moment when she jumped into the air. She acted quickly and clearly. Body aches and fatigue tried to prevent her. But the strength of her spirit and the desire to restore her own dignity at least a little pushed her forward. She was about to land on her opponent's head and drive her face into the mat. Perhaps then she will have a chance to... no. Of course no.

Her feet landed on the mat, not the back of Carmen's head. And the next thing Nerissa felt was the palms on the back of her nape. Her arms were locked in a full nelson hold. You know, never say it can't get any worse. Why? Because it can. Given a small chance to rectify the situation with this match, Nerissa missed it in an instant. The irony was so great that she wanted to laugh. But instead of laughing, she let out a painful groan.

"Ghhhhr..."

A wonderful and clear dragon suplex that was completely focused on the Echidna's head. One moment of pain. A bright flash before her eyes. And the rest was no longer important. She didn't have enough strength to do something about it. Her body went limp, and her mind was already somewhere between the real world and the world of dreams. Perhaps it was even good because in such a state she could not think that this was perhaps the worst possible option for her debut in the new federation.

Boom.

The sound of thunder echoed across the arena, a resonating, thunderous sound that nearly made Carmen’s ears ring. Even in hurt state, she was able to drive the suplex home with real force, recruiting some of her body’s best muscles for the effort and landing it with perfection. It wasn’t a lightweight attack, not something meant to soften her foe up. No, this was made for finishing matches, and if feedback she received from that impact was anything to go off of, it had done its job.

For a moment - a single, quiet moment after the impact - Carmen laid there, taking a moment to catch her breath. The weight of the match came down on her all at once, a roller coaster of emotion, and it took a toll. On a surface level, it might not have seemed like anything too crazy. She’d had so many crazy matches in her time with the AFW, against a variety of opponents from every walk of life and style. And yet, Nerissa was different, something new, and she was having a hard time putting a finger on the why. Maybe she never would. Maybe it didn't matter.

Thoughts for later. Whatever Carmen felt, however she was affected, there was only one thing left to do, now. Might as well get on with it. Forget the crowd’s roar. Focus.

Carmen inhaled, deep and long, then rolled over and moved on top of Nerissa. She pulled the woman over to her back, dropped down on top of her, and yanked up her leg, pressing her shoulders down to the mat. The referee slid over and started the count, chiming in along with the crowd.

"ONE!"

The Native American woman completely missed those few moments before the referee's first clap. However, a loud sound near her ear made her mind slightly clear. It was like booting a very slow computer. First of all, Nerissa felt a terrible headache, and then gradually the ability to hear surrounding sounds began to return to her.

And these sounds were quite obvious. The audience was jubilant and already greeted their winner, who defeated the self-confident debutant. The long-haired woman tried to open her eyes, but her vision was obscured by fog. It was a very strange feeling. The whole body was like a cotton bag. And this awakening was definitely not pleasant. Somewhere in the depths of her subconscious, she heard a thin voice that advised her not to wake up at all, because in this case, she would fully feel the whole shitty of the situation.

"TWO!!"

And still, another clap near her ear made the Echidna open her eyes. The bright lights were too blinding, but even that did not prevent her from understanding everything that was happening at the moment. She even managed to see that the striped shirt raised her hand a third time, preparing to slap the mat again. Should she twitch to the side in order to raise her shoulder and break the pin? Her whole body ached with pain, but she was sure that she could do it.

"Fucking shit..." she thought, closing her eyes.

"THREE!!!"

The loud ringing of the bell, coupled with the shouts of the audience, made it clear that the match was over. Even if she broke this pin, she would not have had the strength to oppose at least something to her opponent, who dominated almost the entire match and could have won at least two times already. Perhaps that would show Nerissa's stubbornness. But even she, who never cared about the opinions of others, was not ready to humiliate herself here even longer.
